Hon. Emelia Arthur, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, visited the National Aquaculture Centre in Amrahia and the Aquaculture Demonstration Centre in Ashaiman on a working visit to learn more about their operations and look at ways to support Ghana’s aquaculture industry.

The Centre has contemporary, cutting-edge amenities, such as:

• Net house for shrimp and prawn production (1,000m²)
• Tilapia and catfish tanks with aerators (2,111m³)

• Filtration units, post-harvest centre, laboratory, and sedimentation ponds
• Fully furnished offices and training facilities with accommodation for 24 trainees, classrooms, RAS training structures, and a computer library.

Hon. Emelia Arthur restated the government’s dedication to advancing aquaculture as a viable means of boosting domestic fish output, lowering reliance on imports, and generating employment, especially for women and young people in inland and coastal regions.
She underlined how Ghana’s aquaculture sector can significantly contribute to the country’s food security and economic development with the correct combination of public assistance, private sector innovation, and community involvement.
