Organised Labor has given notice that on June 9, 2023, it will refer Sunon Asogli Limited’s management to the International Labour Conference (ILC).
Speaking to the media on Thursday, June 1, the group voiced its shock at the possibility of such injustice occurring in Ghana 67 years after independence.
The group claimed that because its requests to the local authorities had gone unanswered, it had turned to petitioning the ILC.
Three of Sunon Asogli Power Limited’s local union executives were let go for joining the TUC.
Attempts to address the issue and gain the reinstatement of the affected employees have so far failed, according to Organized Labor.
Dr. Yaw Baah, the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), expressed the determination of Organized Labor to seek justice for its members and urged the government to take action right away before a formal petition is filed.
Because we don’t believe that this should be happening in Ghana 67 years after independence, we are reporting this to the International Labour Conference on June 9. We are sending it up there in the hopes that it would give them time to reflect; they ought to do so before June 26,” he said.
If the group’s local leaders are not reinstated by June 26, 2023, they have already vowed to take other measures.
