The management of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) has been tasked by Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, to lead the company’s complete modernisation as part of the government’s ambitious plans to create an integrated aluminium industry based on value addition.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 28, 2024, during a working visit to VALCO, the Minister said he had faith in the company’s present leadership, pointing out that they have shown new vitality and vision that can bring VALCO back to its previous splendour.
“VALCO holds immense potential, akin to a sleeping giant waiting to be awakened. By harnessing this potential, we can revitalize its operations and unlock new economic opportunities for the country.”

He said VALCO has a bright future and that its revival might change many people’s lives by bringing substantial value and financial advantages.
He also urged domestic and foreign investors to work with the government to industrialise and grow VALCO, which is expected to generate long-term financial gains.
The Minister emphasised the strategic significance of the enterprise and the necessity of modernising VALCO in order to facilitate efficient local processing of Ghana’s bauxite, which is an essential component in completing the aluminium value chain.
Hon. Buah urged “Bringing VALCO back to its feet is a central pillar of President John Dramani Mahama’s reset agenda. We must all rally behind this national vision.”

Mr. Robert Makila Sambian, VALCO’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, gave a thorough presentation outlining the company’s transformation strategy and bright future. “Investors can be assured their confidence in VALCO will yield strong dividends,” he said, revealing that VALCO is poised to turn a profit once more.
VALCO is prepared to regain its position as the industrial backbone of Ghana’s aluminium dream with new leadership and a defined transformational path.
Mr. Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), added his voice and praised VALCO’s management for their visionary leadership. He also echoed the call for a thorough modernisation drive to establish the company as a significant contributor to the industrial growth of the country.
