The Minority in Parliament has revealed that the incoming NDC administration will conduct another SIM re-registration exercise.

This is in response to the present administration’s SIM card re-registration plan, which went into effect on October 1, 2021, with the goal of battling fraud and keeping an eye on anyone involved in illegal acts via their phones.

Ghanaians were instructed to re-register their SIM cards under the current effort using their Ghana Cards. After the final date of May 31, 2023, those who disobeyed the order had their SIM cards terminated.

Samuel Nartey George, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications Committee of Parliament, voiced his concerns about the current re-registration procedure and emphasized the NDC government’s intention to carry out a thorough SIM re-registration exercise in the future during a media briefing in Parliament.

Because of the Ghana Card’s inherent flaws, it is untrue that they are utilizing it to fight crime. Due to this, we have given notice that the following NDC government will properly re-register SIM cards without requiring you to travel to a telecom office and wait in line, as we will instead do.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the minister of communications and digitalization, has revealed that mobile network operators (MNOs) and the Bank of Ghana are collaborating to make it easier for people to get their money back from mobile money accounts.

Many users have expressed their concerns about not being able to access their mobile money accounts’ funds after their SIM cards were disabled due to failure to re-register them.

On June 8, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful provided an update on the SIM re-registration exercise in Parliament. She reassured affected subscribers that, while they won’t be able to use their deactivated SIMs for mobile-related transactions, their funds will still be recovered through the required procedures.

“We keep pushing the National Identification Authority (NIA) to help individuals get their Ghana Cards. Additionally, we are aware of the challenges users are having accessing their mobile money wallets’ funds.
