For the 2025–2026 crop season, the government has approved GH¢12.00 per kilogramme as the Minimum Producer Price for Raw Cashew Nuts. This action is intended to safeguard farmers’ earnings and maintain the expansion of Ghana’s cashew sector.
In accordance with its mandate under the Tree Crops Development Authority Act, 2019 (Act 1010) and the accompanying Regulations, L.I. 2471 (2023), specifically Regulation 47(1), which gives the Authority the authority to determine producer prices for regulated tree crops, the decision was made through the Tree Crops Development Authority.
The approved price comes after a stakeholder engagement in Techiman, Bono East Region, on December 10, 2025, which brought together farmers, aggregators, traders, exporters, and processors throughout the Raw Cashew Nut value chain to ensure a transparent and inclusive pricing process, according to a press release released by the TCDA today in Accra.
Participants were guided through the approved pricing mechanism during the engagement, which included all pertinent statutory and operational cost components, a six-month average exchange rate of GH¢11.0241, and the current Free On Board price of 1,400 dollars per metric tonne based on 48 KOR and 180 nut count with a maximum moisture content of 10%.
Based on 46 KOR and 190 nut count at a maximum moisture content of 10%, the pricing methodology generated an indicative price of 1,012.08 USD per metric tonne, or GH¢11,157.34. This resulted in a farmgate price of GH¢11.157 per kilogramme.
The government approved GH¢12.00 per kilogramme as the Minimum Producer Price for the 2025–2026 Raw Cashew Nut season after stakeholders unanimously decided to adopt a streamlined and more farmer-friendly round number.
The Authority claims that the agreement offers dealers, processors, and exporters certainty while also reflecting a common commitment by all value chain participants to justice, enhanced farmer incentive, and the upkeep of a competitive local cashew market.
Stakeholders also decided that the Minimum Producer Price will be evaluated on a regular basis to account for shifts in the market and important underlying factors, such as changes in exchange rates and worldwide prices.
The Tree Crops Development Authority thanked everyone for their active participation and helpful criticism, pointing out that the cooperative approach boosts trust in the pricing system and promotes the long-term viability of Ghana’s cashew sector.
