Baba Jamal won the Ayawaso East by-election on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a Facebook post announcing the swearing-in event on Monday, March 9, Baba Jamal expressed his great humility at the opportunity to serve the constituency’s people.
He stated his willingness to collaborate with his constituents to create a better future for the community.
“Indeed, Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he said.
Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 4,009 votes in the by-election, was defeated by Baba Jamal with 10,884 votes.
Ibrahim Idrissu received 43 votes, Kanor David received 104 votes, and independent Mohammed Umar Sanda received 1,885 votes.
17,048 votes were cast in the election after 16,928 legitimate votes were cast and 120 were rejected.
The purpose of the by-election was to replace the vacancy left by the death of Mahama Naser Toure, the constituency’s MP, in January.
Baba Jamal is anticipated to formally assume his place in Parliament and represent the people of Ayawaso East following his swearing-in.
