Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang welcomed Ms. Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, on her official visit to Ghana this morning.
Her visit is a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s long-standing relationship with the EU, especially in the areas of peace and security cooperation.
Along with allies including the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Norway, Ghana became the first African nation to sign the Ghana–European Union Security and Defence Partnership as a result of the engagement.

Through the European Peace Facility and the EU Security and Defence Initiative, which have supported more than 30 security-related projects covering conflict prevention, counterterrorism, border management, maritime security, and cybersecurity, the Vice President recognised the European Union’s continued support for Ghana.
The transfer of security equipment, which included drones, motorbikes, counter-UAV systems, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) trucks, was a highlight of the visit.
These resources will enhance our security forces’ operational preparedness and assist Ghana in effectively addressing new threats.
She underlined the necessity of fortifying strategic alliances in order to protect peace and stability in light of recent events in the subregion, such as the unfortunate deaths of Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso.
Development is still built on peace, and this collaboration is essential to safeguarding our shared future.
