Carlos Queiroz has been named head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, by the Ghana Football Association Executive Council in collaboration with all important stakeholders.
Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the US will be led by the former coach of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran.
Queiroz has a long history of winning World Cups. He oversaw Iran in the 2014 and 2018 competitions, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and helped South Africa qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2002.
He has also served as a coach in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar. It is anticipated that he will use his extensive background to the World Cup.
Coach Queiroz starts working right away to get the Black Stars ready for the competition, which begins on June 11, 2026.
On June 17, 2026, Ghana will play its first group match in Toronto, Canada, against Panama. The other group matches will be against Croatia and England.
