Ghana captain André Ayew has opened up about his decision to remain silent after being left out of the Black Stars squad for the World Cup.
Speaking on the Mikel Obi podcast, Ayew explained that he was regularly playing for NAC Breda at the time and was aware that some supporters were calling for his inclusion in Ghana’s World Cup team.
The veteran midfielder noted that some of the players selected for the tournament had limited playing time during the season, but he chose not to publicly criticise the decision.
According to Ayew, several people within the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the media and other circles treated him unfairly during the period. Despite feeling hurt by the situation, he deliberately avoided making public comments.
Ayew said his decision was motivated by his love and commitment to Ghana, stressing that he would not allow disagreements with individuals to affect his relationship with the country.
He maintained that Ghana is bigger than any individual, which influenced his choice to remain quiet despite the criticism and controversy surrounding his exclusion from the Black Stars squad.
The comments have renewed discussions about André Ayew, Ghana’s World Cup campaign, the Black Stars and his relationship with the Ghana Football Association.
