Ghana’s oil and gas industry has received a major boost following investment commitments totalling $3.5 billion from the Jubilee field partners and ENI and its partners, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Simon Madjie.
The investment announcements highlight continued activity in Ghana’s petroleum sector and growing interest from international oil companies seeking opportunities in the country’s energy industry.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition on Thursday, Mr Madjie pointed to the financial commitments as evidence of ongoing investment in Ghana’s oil and gas sector.
The combined investment figure comprises a $2 billion commitment announced by the Jubilee partners and a separate $1.5 billion investment announcement from ENI and its partners.
Jubilee Partners Commit $2 Billion to Oil Field Development
According to Simon Madjie, the $2 billion investment commitment from the Jubilee field partners is expected to support the drilling of 20 wells in the oil field.
The planned drilling programme is expected to contribute to ongoing petroleum operations and support further development of Ghana’s oil production infrastructure.
Investment in new wells is an important component of upstream oil and gas activities, helping companies develop oil fields and sustain production over time.
The commitment also demonstrates the continued role of the Jubilee field in Ghana’s petroleum industry and its importance to the country’s energy investment landscape.
ENI and Partners Announce $1.5 Billion Investment
ENI and its partners have separately announced an investment commitment of $1.5 billion in Ghana’s oil sector.
Combined with the $2 billion commitment from the Jubilee partners, the announcement brings the total investment figure highlighted by the GIPA CEO to $3.5 billion.
The investments reflect continued financial commitments to Ghana’s petroleum industry at a time when attracting international capital remains important for energy development, infrastructure expansion and economic growth.
Ghana Sees Continued Interest from International Oil Companies
Mr Madjie also indicated that other international oil companies have expressed interest in Ghana, suggesting that the country continues to attract attention from investors in the global energy market.
The GIPA plays a key role in promoting Ghana as an investment destination and supporting efforts to attract foreign direct investment across different sectors of the economy.
Investment in the oil and gas industry can generate opportunities across related industries, including engineering, logistics, transportation, equipment supply and other petroleum support services.
However, the broader economic impact of the announced commitments will depend on project implementation, spending timelines and the extent to which local businesses participate in the resulting activities.
What the $3.5 Billion Investment Means for Ghana’s Economy
The combined investment announcements could support petroleum field development, create business opportunities and strengthen activity within Ghana’s energy value chain.
The planned drilling of 20 wells under the Jubilee commitment is a particularly significant element of the announced investment programme.
For Ghana, sustained investment in the oil and gas sector remains relevant to energy production, employment opportunities, government revenue and the development of local suppliers.
The announcements also reinforce the importance of maintaining an attractive investment environment to encourage international energy companies to commit capital to Ghana’s petroleum industry.
