A nine-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped at Agormanya Zango in the Odumase-Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region was rescued by the Ghana Police Service, which also detained a female suspect in relation to the crime.
According to a statement released by the Eastern Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit on Monday, April 20, C/Inspector Bridget Opoku stated that the arrest came after the victim’s father made a complaint the day before, stating that his daughter had left the house and failed to return.
She clarified that the suspect, Regina Mamle Tawiah, 36, was apprehended as a result of intelligence-led operations by Odumase-Krobo District Command officers and assistance from Bureau of National Investigations staff at the Accra International Airport.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the culprit was trying to send the youngster to Kenya when the victim was rescued at the airport.
The girl has subsequently been securely reunited with her father, according to C/Inspector Bridget Opoku.
She states that on Tuesday, April 21, the suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court and entered a not guilty plea.
She is scheduled to return for a case management session on May 5, 2026, after being placed under police custody.
As a result, C/Inspector Bridget Opoku pleaded with the people to maintain their vigilance and notify the police of any suspicious activity.
