The Nigerian film industry is in sorrow after Nollywood star Solomon Akiyesi passed away in his sleep following a brief illness.
The development was confirmed by Mr. Yakub Abubakar, National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
He states that the actor’s daughter said that the night before he passed away, Akiyesi complained of chest trouble and was sent to the hospital, where an ulcer diagnosis and medicine were made.
He went back home, fell asleep, and did not wake up the next morning.
The president of AGN stated, “His wife tried to wake him around 4 a.m., but he did not respond.”
The organization is grieving alongside the actor’s family, he said, describing the actor’s passing as a significant loss to the business. He passed away in Abuja, and his remains have been placed in a mortuary there.
Colleagues have honoured Akiyesi on social media, praising her as a dynamic performer whose performances made an impact.
He brought excitement to every scene, according to actress Celestina Dovigalle, who described him as vibrant and full of enthusiasm.
Desperate Ladies, Pretty Liars, Bridge of Contract, Heart of a Saint, Marry Who You Love (2016), Gen Z Wife (2024), and Accidentally Us (2025) were among the films in which Akiyesi starred.
He started his Nollywood career in the late 1990s and starred in more than 100 films, gaining acclaim as an actor and producer.
He is a native of Ososo in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
