Peter Okoye, often known as Mr. P, is a Nigerian singer and part of the now-defunct P-Square duo. He has responded to calls for his retirement.
He revealed that several admirers recently demanded that the 44-year-old resign, saying that he shouldn’t be doing Afrobeats at his age.
But Mr. P asserted that there is no retirement in the music business in a recent interview with The Beat FM Lagos.
He emphasised that prior to his passing, Michael Jackson was still touring and recording music in his 50s. He asserted that people advocating for his retirement are seeking his downfall.
Mr. P said, “Michael Jackson was over 50 and was still planning a world tour before he died. It’s only in Nigeria that somebody would just wake up and start calling on musicians yo retire. I have seen some people do the same thing to Wizkid.”
“We should be careful of how people try to put others down. There’s no retirement in music. I don’t know why some people think there’s retirement in music,”he reiterated.
