A deficit of gas supply from the West African Gas Pipeline (WAPCo) and the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) has been reported by the Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo).

Because of this, there is a huge supply imbalance of 650 MW during peak hours, which causes power outages across the nation.

In a statement, GRIDCo acknowledged the problem and gave the public the assurance that steps were being taken to resume gas supplies from the Atuabo facility. They emphasized that power will progressively be restored to affected customers as the situation improved.

The Ghana Grid Company Ltd, which manages the National Interconnected Transmission System, expressed regret for any inconvenience resulting from the shortage in thermal power generation brought on by the limited gas supply from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) and the West African Gas pipeline (WAPCo). Customers in some parts of the country would be impacted by the 650MW peak-hour shortfall.

These power disruptions follow the Independent Power Producers’ (IPP) threat to cut off from the national power grid as a result of a huge debt the government owes them. The IPPs have been convinced by the administration to change their minds, nevertheless.

The government is making a concerted effort to alleviate the gas supply constraint and get the country’s impacted regions’ electricity supplies back to normal.
