Carlos Queiroz, the coach of the Black Stars, has presented a passionate vision for Ghana’s run to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasising that skill alone will not be sufficient until players, officials, and supporters come together for the happiness of the people and the glory of the country.

The seasoned strategist emphasised that succeeding at the World Cup level requires sacrifice, preparation, and discipline rather than just ambition in an exclusive conversation with Beyond The Whistle.

Every country that competes in the World Cup hopes to win the trophy, but only those that are prepared to face the challenges will have the opportunity to do so, according to Queiroz.

“It’s easy to say, ‘I want to win the World Cup,’ just like many people want to buy a private jet, but you have to be ready to pay the price to achieve those dreams.” he remarked.

The former Portugal and Iran coach, who has coached at several FIFA World Cups, clarified that meticulous planning, diligence, and team cohesion are essential for success on football’s largest stage.

He disclosed that, with assistance from the Ghana Football Association, he has recently stepped up his efforts to comprehend Ghana’s domestic football system and local potential.

Queiroz revealed that he has already evaluated some of the top domestic players in the nation in less time than anticipated thanks to a unique local observation program.

He said, “I went deeper to know some of the local players, we put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster.”

Additionally, the Black Stars coach emphasised the importance of togetherness and dedication, stressing that no one should choose themselves before the national team.

“Nobody will be above the team, everybody must play with only one thing in mind, Ghana, the pride of the nation and the happiness of the people,” he declared.

In his opinion, re-establishing confidence and unity among the Black Stars squad prior to the World Cup campaign will need fostering trust between players, coaches, and supporters.

Queiroz stressed the need of contemporary football preparation in addition to tactics and player selection, emphasising set-piece organization, nutrition, fitness, physiotherapy, and technical subtleties as crucial components of his rebuilding process.

“We have to put the right preparation in place, training, diet, nutrition, physios, fitness, and the details of set pieces,” he continued.

As he gets ready for Ghana’s fifth appearance on football’s biggest stage, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Queiroz discussed his philosophy, goals, and the challenging path ahead in an interview that was featured in the most recent edition of Beyond The Whistle.
