NAIMOS COMMUNICATIONS
An intelligence-led operation in Oseikokrom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, May 21, 2026, marked a significant victory for the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task team, which has stepped up its nationwide operations.
The task force detained seven (7) local employees and one (1) Chinese illegal miner at the Galamsey site during the meticulously organised and coordinated intelligence raid.
The suspects tried to leave the scene when they saw the task force was approaching, but they were stopped and taken into custody.
Two (2) Toyota Hilux pickups with the registration numbers GX 555-24 and CN 5168-26 were found at the illegal mining location.
Two (2) excavators were found to be actively engaged in illegal mining operations at the site after additional investigation.
The task force then seized one excavator and transported it to the NAIMOS logistical holding location in Kumasi, while the other excavator was immobilised in place by removing its monitor and control board, as it was immobile due to an attached tracker that could not be disabled for movement.
Additionally, the two (2) confiscated cars were transported to the NAIMOS logistics holding location for storage.
Additionally, one (1) pump-action gun was taken from the scene by the task force. The task team also burnt down a number of improvised buildings that the illegal miners used as hiding places.
The following information relates to the suspects who were detained:
1. Huang WEIYE (Chinese National) – 38 years.
2. Augustine MANU – 23 years.
3. Kwame NTOADRO – 41 years.
4. Moses ALOU – 30 years.
5. Alex LENLEY – 32 years.
6. Yaw OWUSU – 26 years.
7. Shaibu WUNI – 26 years.
8. Patrick BAMPOA – 22 years.
Since then, the Chinese national has been transferred to NAIMOS Headquarters for additional enquiries and turned over to the Ghana Immigration Service if needed.
Additionally, the Antoakrom Police Station has received the Ghanaian suspects to aid in their investigation and prosecution.
Colonel Dominic Buah, NAIMOS’s Director of Operations, disclosed that the Secretariat’s task teams would keep stepping up these surgical raids in all of the nation’s galamsey hotspots.
The Director also reaffirmed that NAIMOS’s increased operations and other tactics are greatly disrupting long-standing illicit mining networks and activities that continue to devastate road networks, forest reserves, and cocoa farms while seriously contaminating the country’s waterways.
