Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance, has revealed that approximately 51 kilometres of the projected Accra-Kumasi Motorway corridor have now been cleared as work on the major infrastructure project continues.
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ghana Armed Forces to spearhead the initial phase of work on the transformational road project.
Dr. Forson commended the military for what he called “phenomenal work” on the project in a Facebook post on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
“An update on the phenomenal work being undertaken by the Ghana Armed Forces on President Mahama’s transformational Accra-Kumasi Expressway project. So far, about 51km of the entire stretch has been successfully cleared,” he posted.
The Finance Minister revealed that following the completion of assessments by the pertinent state authorities, compensation payments to impacted residents would start in June.
“In June, following assessments by the relevant state agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces will commence the payment of compensation to affected citizens,” he wrote.
According to Dr Forson, the project is one of Ghana’s most important infrastructure projects and is anticipated to stimulate economic growth and enhance mobility between the nation’s two largest cities.
“Steadily, deliberately, and with remarkable professionalism, the foundation is being laid for what will become one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors, the progress made so far is truly impressive,” the Finance Minister added.
Along one of Ghana’s busiest road corridors, the Accra-Kumasi Motorway project is anticipated to boost trade and economic activity, reduce transportation difficulties, and improve connectivity.
