Diesel will see a little decrease in price during the first pricing window in June 2026, but price floors for petrol and LPG are expected to rise.
This is in line with the National Petroleum Authority’s (NPA) most recent pricing projection, which takes into account changes in the global market as well as other current market conditions.
The petrol price floor for the first pricing window of June is set at GH¢15.20 per litre, which is GH¢0.60 more than the GH¢14.60 per litre recorded in the second pricing window of May.
LPG will also see an increase, with the price floor going up by GH¢0.32 to GH¢13.48 per kilogram from GH¢13.16 per kilogram in the previous window.
However, a minor decrease is anticipated for diesel.
Diesel’s price floor has been set at GH¢15.49 per litre, which is GH¢0.32 less than the GH¢15.81 per litre recorded during the second pricing window in May.
Oil marketing companies (OMCs) and LPG marketing companies (LPGMCs) can only sell petroleum products at the price floor.
All OMCs and LPGMCs must adhere to the authorised price floors during the pricing window under consideration, under the Petroleum Products Pricing Guidelines (PPPG).
The NPA explained that the price floors do not include the premiums levied by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs), the operating margins of Bulk Import, Distribution, and Export Companies (BIDECs), and the margins of dealers and marketers, which are set separately by the individual businesses.
The most recent changes follow a review of the government’s fuel relief programs, which were put in place to protect consumers from soaring fuel costs brought on by Middle East tensions.
The government eliminated the GH¢0.36 per litre petrol assistance under the revised intervention, and at the beginning of the second pricing window in May, the GH¢2.00 per litre diesel support was lowered to GH¢1.07 per litre.
Subject to additional evaluation based on market conditions, the new relief measures are anticipated to stay in effect for two pricing periods.
