The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, also referred to as the anti-gay bill, was passed by Parliament.

The law, which aims to make LGBTQ activities illegal, was passed with fresh revisions that spare some people and organisations from legal penalties.

Those who give legal counsel or representation to people who identify as LGBTQ will not be punished under the revisions.

Additionally, the measure exempts media outlets and journalists that report on current events or LGBTQ-related problems while doing their official jobs.

Furthermore, the law would not sanction medical personnel, including those who offer LGBTQ people surgical, psychiatric, or counselling services.

The Minority Caucus vehemently opposed the modifications, claiming that the original bill was defective and unfit for its intended purpose when it was presented to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for approval.

Parliament approved the bill in spite of the Minority’s opposition.
