Emmanuel Arthur, a 17-year-old final-year student at Mfantsipim Senior High School in Cape Coast, is said to have committed suicide in an uncompleted building not long after taking his geography test.

A police report states that the event was discovered at approximately 4:45 p.m. when a carpenter working at an unfinished building at OLA North saw the decomposing body of a young boy hanging inside the structure and promptly notified the authorities.

The deceased, thought to be around 17 years old, was found hanging with a piece of fabric tied around his neck, according to police officers who responded to the site.

A backpack holding a practice test paper, a 2026 Geography Paper One examination sheet from Mfantsipim SHS with the name Emmanuel Arthur, cell phones, and other personal items were found after the scene was searched.

The deceased’s identification was subsequently verified by Mfantsipim SHS authorities, and his family was formally notified of the event.

The body was in an advanced condition of decomposition, according to medical staff at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

After that, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly’s (CCMA) Environmental Health Directorate was called in to fumigate the area before the body was taken out and buried that same day in accordance with medical procedures.

The death has shocked Cape Coast locals and the school community, and police said investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding the death.

Evans Enttie, the public relations officer for the Central Regional Police, also verified the occurrence during an interview.
