The Gbese District Court convicted Fidelis Samuel Mensah to 30 days in prison for deceiving applicants at the NIA Regional Office in Accra by falsely claiming to be an employee of the National Identification Authority (NIA).

According to investigations, he tricked the public by promising to help with Ghana Card registration and update services while stealing money, cell phones, and private papers from victims.

He entered a guilty plea to accusations of stealing and defrauding under false pretences after being apprehended through a joint operation by the NIA Police Investigation Unit and NIA personnel.

He was found guilty based solely on his own plea.

The public is advised by the NIA to exercise caution and only interact with authorised personnel at specified service locations.
