Oliver Barker-Vormawor and other lawyers representing Frederick Kumi, also known as Abu Trica, have submitted an urgent appeal to the High Court requesting a stay of execution of an extradition order that was given on July 2, 2026.

The application, which was submitted on the applicant’s behalf, aims to stop all procedures for turning Abu Trica over to American authorities while an expected appeal and an application for leave to appeal are filed, heard, and decided.

A stay of the High Court’s July 2 ruling, which rejected Abu Trica’s appeal for a writ of habeas corpus ad subjiciendum, is one of the five major reliefs that counsel are requesting, according to court filings.

Additionally, the lawyers are requesting that the Court halt the District Court’s committal order’s implementation and enforcement.

Additionally, the application requests an order prohibiting the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service acting through INTERPOL, the Minister for the Interior, and any other state agency from turning over, extraditing, removing, or moving Mr. Kumi into U.S. custody until his appeals are finished.

In addition, lawyers are requesting that the Court grant an immediate administrative stay of the judgement and any related orders while the application is being heard, in addition to any additional directions that the Court may find appropriate.

Abu Trica is undergoing extradition proceedings, due to charges in the United States.
