President John Dramani Mahama hosted the President of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, during a one-day state visit to Accra that included discussions about climate-induced flooding and regional cooperation.
President Bio, who also chairs the ECOWAS Authority, used the visit as a chance to offer his condolences and show support for Ghana in the wake of the recent devastating floods that have displaced thousands of people and claimed lives throughout the nation.
According to President Mahama, the government has activated the Joint Task Force and the Ghana Armed Forces to support continuing recovery efforts, such as cleaning waterways and re-establishing normalcy in impacted communities.

Additionally, he mentioned that money from the Contingency Fund has been provided by the Finance Minister to assist with relief activities organised by NADMO and other organisations.
As emergency response and aid distribution continue, he noted, preliminary assessments show that over 48,000 people have been made homeless, with 12 confirmed deaths and numerous others still missing.
Prior to the summit in Sierra Leone, the two leaders also had bilateral discussions on regional security, governance, and economic integration within ECOWAS.
President Julius Maada Bio stressed the need for more regional collaboration in addressing climate change, urban planning issues, and disaster preparedness throughout West Africa while expressing his profound sympathy for Ghana over the effects of the floods.
The visit reiterated a shared commitment to bolstering ECOWAS collaboration in the sake of peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the sub-region and highlighted the long-time friendships and solidarity between Ghana and Sierra Leone.
