Minister of Recreation and Sports After months of conjecture regarding Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz’s wage, Kofi Adams has confirmed that the seasoned Portuguese tactician makes $80,000 a month rather than the commonly touted $100,000.

The financial details of Queiroz’s contract have been the subject of heated public discussion since he was appointed head coach of Ghana prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghana Football Association decided not to reveal the specifics of the short-term contract that the former Real Madrid assistant and former coach of Iran, Egypt, and Colombia signed, which resulted in a lot of conjecture on his monthly salary.

However, Sports Minister Kofi Adams clarified the situation and refuted the reports in an interview on 3FM Sunrise.

“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been speculated,” Adams said.

The suspicions that had dominated conversations among football fans and commentators since Queiroz took over the four-time African champions earlier this year were dispelled by the minister’s remarks.

The 73-year-old was given the immediate responsibility of leading Ghana at the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup after Otto Addo was dismissed in March.

Queiroz led a respectable season that rekindled hope for the national squad despite having little time to prepare the team.

The Black Stars earned a disciplined goalless draw against England after starting their World Cup campaign with a valiant 1-0 victory over Panama.

Ghana finished third and qualified for the Round of 32 after losing to Croatia 2-1 in their last Group C match.

Ghana’s remarkable journey in the knockout stage ended with a close 1-0 loss to Colombia in a hotly contested match.

Supporters and football pundits praised the Black Stars’ performances throughout the tournament despite the dismal outcome, especially given the team’s challenging group and Queiroz’s limited time to prepare the squad.

Ghana made it back to the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time since the 2010 competition in South Africa thanks to the Portuguese coach’s increased tactical organization and defensive discipline.

According to reports, Queiroz’s influence since taking over the club has pleased both the Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Football Association.

The focus will now shift to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, where Ghana has been placed in Group C with Somalia, The Gambia, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Queiroz will be looking to capitalise on the improvements gained at the World Cup and lead the Black Stars back to continental victory as the qualifications get off in September.
