Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, has praised Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance, and the Ministry’s employees for their dedication to carrying out reforms meant to support the Government’s Reset Agenda and restore macroeconomic stability.

As part of a series of visits to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to improve coordination between the Presidency and public institutions, evaluate the progress made in implementing government priorities, and gain a better understanding of the difficulties facing the various institutions, she received the commendation during her working visit to the Ministry of Finance.

The Vice President was briefed by the Ministry on the nation’s fiscal outlook and the changes being implemented to bring back economic stability during the meeting. The talks focused on the challenging budgetary circumstances that the government inherited and the steps being taken to boost the country’s economic performance.

The Ministry also highlighted considerable progress in Ghana’s debt restructuring program, including the successful repayment of Eurobond obligations and other major debt commitments, as well as ongoing preparations to meet impending debt servicing obligations.

Management emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to restoring fiscal discipline and decreasing the fiscal deficit in the medium term in order to put the economy back on track for sustainable growth.

The Public Financial Management and Public Procurement Acts, the Value for Money Act, improved domestic revenue mobilisation, COCOBOD’s restructuring, and increased funding for important government initiatives like the Women’s Development Bank and the Big Push infrastructure program were among the major policy reforms and accomplishments that the Vice President was once again informed about.

Speaking to management and employees, Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister, and Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Minister, for their professionalism, devotion, and hard work in putting reforms into place that are starting to improve the economy.

She underlined the significance of responsible and open public financial management and emphasised that the Ministry’s actions directly affect Ghanaians’ lives.

She pointed out that although while a large portion of the country’s resources are still being used to pay off debt, the government is still dedicated to maintaining the current reform agenda, encouraging value addition, and bolstering sensible budgetary procedures.

The Vice President also thanked all employees, including management, technical officers, and support personnel, for their vital role in realising the government’s goal of creating a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous Ghana.
