The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three individuals in connection with the attempted importation of around five million tramadol tablets with an estimated street value of almost GH¢100 million.

Following the interception of a cargo thought to contain the illegal pharmaceutical products, the suspects were captured at Accra International Airport in Accra during an intelligence-led operation.

The operation is a component of NACOC’s continuous efforts to fight drug trafficking and safeguard national security and public health.

According to preliminary investigations, the shipment was intended for distribution both within Ghana and potentially throughout the subregion. Investigators believe the seizure is tied to a larger drug trafficking network, and more research is being done to find other people involved.

While forensic and documentary investigations are ongoing, the found tramadol tablets have been preserved as evidence.

NACOC has reiterated its dedication to stopping drug trafficking organisations’ operations and prosecuting those involved.

The Commission called on the public to continue being watchful and to assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activity.

Following the completion of investigations, the three suspects are anticipated to be arraigned in court in compliance with Ghana’s drug regulations.
