Camila Alhassan, 43, was found guilty by the Ghana Police Service and sentenced to a year in prison with hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court for Offensive Conduct after she posted derogatory and abusive content on social media that targeted the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, and the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

Through an intelligence-led operation, the convict was apprehended on July 9, 2026, after police intercepted a TikTok video in which she made derogatory, offensive, and insulting remarks about the President and the First Lady, including false allegations about the President’s private life and threats against their lives.

The remarks were thought to have the potential to erode national unity and disturb public peace.

Camila Alhassan was found guilty and brought before the Accra Circuit Court on charges of offensive conduct and false communication after investigations.

A medical check at the Police Hospital verified that she was not pregnant, despite the fact that punishment was first postponed due to her pregnancy claim.

The court condemned her to a year in prison with hard work on July 16, 2026.

In accordance with the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), the Ghana Police Service is also preparing to bring the convicted individual before the High Court on a supplementary allegation of false communication.

The Ghana Police Service reminds the public that although freedom of expression is guaranteed by the Constitution, it must be used responsibly and within the bounds of the law.

The Service cautions that anyone who engages in criminal activity online will be subject to the full force of the law and reiterates that social media is not a forum for disseminating lies, issuing threats, or publishing illegal content.
