A ministerial reshuffle may occur in the upcoming months, according to President John Dramani Mahama’s announcement that his administration will make additional changes to the makeup of the government.

Speaking on Friday, July 17, during his Reset Tour and citizen engagement in the Volta Region, the President promised to increase the number of chances for individuals to work for his government.

“There’ll be reshuffles and reshuffles and reshuffles, so just stand in readiness. Who knows, your turn will come and you’ll be invited to serve,” he said.

Mahama said that in order to minimise public spending and increase efficiency, his government had slashed the number of presidential staff, advisers, and other officials at the presidency from roughly 300 to slightly over 200.

“We’ve kept it lean and mean and that is how we’re able to cut down some of the waste,” he stated.

According to the president, his government has set a maximum of 60 ministers, and all regional ministerial offices and some ministries are functioning without deputy ministers.

He stated that the actions were a part of his administration’s pledge to lower government expenses while preserving efficient public administration.

Mahama’s remarks coincide with conjecture over potential modifications to his government as it pursues its campaign pledges and policy agenda.
