The maiden edition of the National Children’s Camp, organised by the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Churches (GMPC), has ended successfully following a five-day programme held at Burma Camp in Accra.

The children’s Christian camp, which concluded on Sunday, August 30, 2026, brought together children between the ages of 6 and 16 for a period of spiritual development, Bible study, fellowship and Christian education.

Held at the Forces Senior High Technical School, the maiden camp was organised under the theme “The Chosen Generation”, based on 1 Peter 2:9–10. The programme recorded a maximum participation of approximately 350 children from various Garrisons.

Delivering a sermon titled “You’re the Chosen Generation, Fear God,” the Senior Chaplain of GMPC, Very Reverend Commander David Benedict Quayson, highlighted five key principles intended to guide Christians in their daily lives.

He encouraged the children and other participants to develop the fear of God, stressing the importance of recognising God’s omniscience and remaining conscious of the eventual day of judgement.

The Senior Chaplain also called on parents, church leaders and members of the Christian community to play an active role in nurturing children in godly values and Christian virtues.

According to him, teaching children to fear God is fundamental to wisdom and can help establish a strong foundation for their Christian faith and spiritual growth.

On behalf of the Methodist Presbyterian Churches, Very Reverend Commander Quayson expressed appreciation to the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, and the Director of Religious Affairs, Brigadier General Benjamin Godson Kumi-Woode, for their support.

He also thanked the various partners and sponsors whose contributions helped make the inaugural National Children’s Camp a success.

The Senior Chaplain further announced that the next edition of the national children’s camp is expected to be held in Kumasi, providing an opportunity for more children to participate in the Christian youth development programme.

The closing service also featured the induction of the first National Sunday School Executives, who have been tasked with coordinating activities of the Children’s Ministry across the various Garrisons.

Brother Wilfred Fiifi Atitson was inducted as the National Superintendent, while Mr William Amoateng was inducted as the Vice National Superintendent.

The five-day programme featured several activities designed to promote both spiritual growth and healthy competition among participating children.

These included Sword Drills, Bible Study, Bible Quiz and Singing Competitions, with children representing the different Garrisons.

The 4 Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church emerged as the overall best-performing Garrison after winning both the Sword Drill and Bible Quiz competitions.

The 3 Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church, meanwhile, took first place in the Singing Competition.

The successful conclusion of the maiden National Children’s Camp underscores the GMPC’s commitment to promoting Christian education, Bible knowledge, spiritual development and godly values among children and young people in Ghana.
