Lawyer Nshia Akweteh Zuu, a member of the La Dade Kotopon Youth, has criticised the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach by soldiers, arguing that the exercise undermines the rule of law and damages Ghana’s international reputation.

Reacting to the demolition at the Labadi beachfront, Mr Zuu questioned the ownership of the land and insisted that the area does not belong to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

He warned that the La Dade Kotopon Youth would consider legal action to prevent any investor from undertaking development projects on the disputed beachfront.

“The Labadi beachfront does not belong to SSNIT. If any investor steps there to develop the place, we’ll go to court to prevent it,” he stated.

Mr Zuu also questioned why lands in Kumasi had reportedly been returned to the Kumasi Stool while similar considerations had not been extended to the La Stool.

His comments have renewed public debate over the La Pleasure Beach demolition, traditional land ownership, the role of state institutions and the legal process governing redevelopment projects in Ghana.

The dispute raises broader questions about land rights, military involvement in demolitions, customary ownership and the need for transparent legal procedures in resolving land-related conflicts.
