New Winneba Attack: Police Arrest Six Suspects After Three People Die, 15 Injured

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a violent attack at New Winneba in the Central Region, which resulted in the deaths of three people and left 15 others injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when a mob estimated at about 300 people allegedly armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks invaded parts of the New Winneba Township.

Six Suspects Arrested Over New Winneba Violence

According to the Ghana Police Service, the group reportedly came from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze before attacking residents, shops and houses in the area.

The police have identified the six suspects arrested as:

  • Kweku Kakraba, 52
  • Arko Thomas, 19
  • Samuel Tulasi, 19
  • Samuel Gyasi, 22
  • Emmanuel Okyere, 22
  • Seth Osei, 22

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the violent incident.

Three Confirmed Dead After New Winneba Attack

The police reported that approximately 15 injured victims, including a police officer, were transported to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for medical treatment.

Three of the victims were later confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.

During an assessment of the crime scene, police personnel also recovered one locally manufactured single-barrel gun and an empty AAA cartridge.

Security Reinforced in New Winneba

Following the violent attack, additional security personnel were deployed to New Winneba to restore and maintain peace.

Personnel from the Winneba, Agona Swedru and Mankessim Police Divisions, together with a special team from the Inspector-General of Police, have been deployed to reinforce security operations in the affected communities.

The Police Headquarters has also sent two armoured vehicles to the area as part of measures to strengthen security.

Authorities have subsequently established six snap checkpoints and intensified both daytime and nighttime patrols to prevent further attacks and protect residents.

Personnel from the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate (PID) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have also been deployed to monitor developments and support the ongoing investigation.

Police Say Situation Is Under Control

The Central Regional Police Command said the situation in New Winneba is currently calm and under control, following the deployment of additional security personnel.

The six suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue into the New Winneba attack, which has raised concerns over public safety and security in parts of Ghana’s Central Region.

The police have assured residents that security measures will remain in place to prevent further violence and maintain peace in the affected communities.
