A domestic violence case involving Ghanaian public figure Nana Akua Addo and her estranged husband, Harold Duodu Norman, has taken a new turn after a court remanded Norman into custody for two weeks and granted Nana Akua Addo custody of their two daughters.

The court’s decision follows several delays in the proceedings, including Norman’s failure to appear at a hearing on October 7, 2026. His lawyer reportedly explained that he was hospitalised, prompting investigators from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to visit the hospital to verify the claim before the case could proceed.

Nana Akua Addo Files Domestic Violence Complaint

Nana Akua Addo reportedly petitioned the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on August 20, 2026, accusing her estranged husband of physical, emotional and economic abuse.

Following the complaint, Harold Duodu Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27, 2026, and provided a caution statement to investigators.

He was subsequently released on police enquiry bail on August 29, 2026, with two sureties as investigations into the allegations continued.

Preliminary investigations also reportedly uncovered previous DOVVSU cases involving Norman at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations dating back to July 2026.

Police and Gender Ministry to Support Nana Akua Addo and Her Children

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that it is working with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure that Nana Akua Addo and her two daughters receive the necessary welfare support.

The court’s decision to grant custody of the children to their mother comes amid ongoing legal proceedings concerning the domestic violence allegations.

The case highlights the role of DOVVSU and other relevant institutions in investigating domestic abuse complaints and supporting affected individuals and children.

The allegations against Harold Duodu Norman remain subject to the legal process.
