The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in charge of Finance and Administration, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, has urged newly elected constituency executives to promote unity and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures following the internal elections.
She made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Lawra Senior High School during the NDC’s constituency elections in the Upper West Region.
Asamoah, who is seeking re-election as Deputy General Secretary, was in the region to monitor the party’s electoral activities.
She emphasised that both successful and unsuccessful aspirants must put aside their differences and work together to advance the NDC’s collective interests ahead of future elections.
According to her, maintaining internal cohesion after the polls is essential to building a stronger party and improving its performance at the grassroots level.
Asamoah praised aspirants, delegates and supporters for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during the voting process. She noted that the cordial interactions among contestants reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
She also highlighted the importance of transparent, free and fair elections, explaining that confidence in the electoral process would encourage defeated candidates to accept the results and collaborate with the winners.
The NDC official expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the constituency elections she had monitored and commended electoral officials and other stakeholders for helping to ensure a peaceful exercise.
The call for unity comes as the governing party seeks to consolidate its grassroots support and strengthen its organisational structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
