Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Programme is expected to generate employment opportunities within the next one to two years as the government begins implementing its priority projects, Presidential Adviser Augustus Goosie Tanoh has announced.

Mr Tanoh, who serves as Presidential Adviser on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, said the government was focusing on 10 to 15 priority projects out of the 32 initiatives outlined under the programme.

His comments come amid calls from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the government to demonstrate tangible progress in implementing the 24-hour economy policy, nearly two years after its introduction.

Speaking to Channel One News on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, on the sidelines of the Africa Bio Conference, Mr Tanoh explained that employment opportunities would begin to emerge as the selected projects are rolled out.

According to him, the government has developed a portfolio of 32 projects and is concentrating its resources on the first 10 to 15 initiatives to accelerate implementation and deliver results.

24-Hour Economy to Boost Industrial Production

Mr Tanoh explained that the 24-Hour Economy Programme is designed to increase local production, improve the supply of raw materials and help industries operate more efficiently.

He noted that ensuring a consistent supply of locally produced raw materials would prevent factories from experiencing production delays and enable businesses to expand their operations.

The initiative is also expected to improve Ghana’s industrial capacity utilisation from its current estimated range of 36 to 42 per cent to between 80 and 90 per cent.

Achieving this target could support increased manufacturing output, stimulate private-sector investment and create additional employment opportunities across various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

Government Targets Job Creation and Economic Growth

The Presidential Adviser stressed that employment growth would depend on increased production and rising demand for goods and services. He said the government was working to establish the necessary conditions to support both.

The programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to promote industrialisation, expand local manufacturing, strengthen domestic supply chains and accelerate export development.

If successfully implemented, the 24-hour economy initiative could create new jobs, improve business productivity and provide additional opportunities for Ghanaian workers and entrepreneurs.

Ghanaians are expected to see more tangible outcomes as the priority projects move into implementation over the next one to two years.
