The inclusion of two Minority Members of Parliament (MPs), James Agalga and Peter Lanchene Toobu, on the committee is opposed by attorneys representing three Senior Police Officers who were caught on camera conspiring to have Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare removed.

The two MPs made what the attorneys refer to as prejudiced remarks against their clients, they claim.

The committee’s chairman was pleaded with by lead attorney Kweku Owusu Agyemang to allow the two to withdraw.

“We refer to the comments made by the Member of Parliament for Wa West, Honorable Peter Lanchene Toobu reported on Ghanaweb. The Member of Parliament says hell fire waits for Police Officers whose names were mentioned in the IGP’s attempted elimination tape.

“He was emphatic that those whose individuals will regret ever choosing the police as a profession,” Mr. Owusu Agyemang read.

The two lawmakers asserted their statements wouldn’t in any way interfere with their job on the committee in their defense. However, Mr. Lanchene Toobu denied the reports, claiming that the lawyer had misquoted him.

The committee’s chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea, however, turned down the police officers’ legal counsel’s appeal.

The MP for Abuakwa South promised the police that the proceedings would be fair.
