Today’s meetings of the Parliamentary Committee looking into an audio recording that was allegedly leaked about a plot to have Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), removed will continue.

The primary witness, Chief Bugri Naabu, a former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, has already been questioned by the committee.

The Atta Akyea-led committee has also interrogated Commissioner George Mensah and Supt. Emmanuel Gyebi, two police officers. Supt. George Asare, the third police officer, is due to speak before the committee today.

Following assertions made by COP George Mensah that the IGP directed the tape’s recording, possesses the original copy, and must be contacted if the committee needs the tape, various people have voiced contrasting views on the matter.

Major Derrick Oduro (Rtd. ), a former deputy minister of defense, disagrees with James Agalga, a member of the parliamentary committee looking into the matter, who claimed that the committee might ask the IGP to assist in the inquiry.

“There is no need for the IGP to be invited because it is an accusation against him and I don’t know the terms of reference [of the Committee] and we are talking about a leaked tape.”

“I am not sure the terms of reference cover anything that will warrant the invitation of the IGP, and so I don’t think it is in a good direction for them to invite the IGP,” Major Derrick Oduro said.
