Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, has vowed to give the National Democratic Congress (NDC) a tough fight in the 2024 general elections in their strongholds.

He claimed that although they claim to be their strongholds, the zongo and Muslim communities are where the NDC gets the majority of its votes.

Speaking to delegates in the Oti area, Dr. Bawumia said that if he were to become the leader of the ruling party, the NDC’s long-held and extensively publicized falsehood that the NPP is anti-zongo would be dispelled.

People in the zongo communities express skepticism about Dr. Bawumia serving as the NPP’s standard bearer in the impending 2024 General Elections.

We will cast a large number of votes for Bawumia, nevertheless, if they do bring him. Therefore, should Bawumia win the nomination, the NDC will suffer severe losses in its two strongholds, the North and the zongo communities.

Additionally, I’ll increase the number of NPP votes in the Volta Region. I will thus shake all of their fortresses.

The NDC does not want Dr. Bawumia to become the flagbearer for this reason. They do so because they are aware that I shall confront them in their strongholds as flagbearer.

Following the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Super Delegates Conference, Dr. Bawumia is on a three-day campaign tour in the Oti area as part of his broad outreach to NPP voters at the grassroots level.

With over two-thirds (68%) of the legitimate votes at the Super Delegates Conference, Dr. Bawumia emerged as the clear favorite to represent the NPP as the party’s flagbearer in the approaching 2024 elections.

Dr. Bawumia is actively re-engaging with the party’s founding members and showing unflinching tenacity in his quest of the flagbearer role.
