The public has been advised by the police not to accept any invitations to participate in a demonstration that is scheduled on Thursday, September 21.
An application has been made to the High Court to put an end to the three-day demonstration at the Jubilee House, according to information released earlier on Wednesday by the Ghana Police Service’s Accra Regional Command.
However, organizers of the planned protest discredited the police statement and urged the populace to gather at the 37 bus station on Thursday morning in preparation for the march to the government building. They assert that they have not received a court order.
According to the Command’s response, the order was delivered to the organizers on Tuesday, September 19, via their attorneys, Atuguba & Associates.
“In their letter of notification to the Police dated September 4, 2023, the organizers of the planned demonstration chose and mandated that the procedure be served on the lawyers.
The organisers stated in the aforementioned letter that the police may contact them through their attorneys, Atuguba & Associates, and as a result, the court papers were served on them through their attorneys.
In order to maintain public order and safety, the police advise the general population to ignore any invitations to participate in “illegal” demonstrations.
