More than 50 demonstrators, including the Occupy Jubilee House demonstration’s organizers, have been detained by the police.

In a statement on the eve of the protest, the police claimed that they had successfully served the organizers of the scheduled demonstration near Jubilee House from Thursday, September 21, to Saturday, September 23, 2023, after filing a petition at the High Court in Accra.

As the parties wait for the court to rule on the case, the Police also advised the public to “take note and disregard any calls from any individuals or groups encouraging them to assemble for a demonstration at the Jubilee House.”

The planned picket’s organizers promised the public that the protest would still take place despite the police filing an injunction application with the court since they had not been properly served.

On Thursday, the ‘Democracy Hub’ group attempted to march to Jubilee House, the official residence of the President of Ghana. In response, the police detained a number of demonstrators, including some of the organizers.
