After the party’s presidential primary, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been named the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate.
Dr. Bawumia won a landslide victory with 118,210 votes, or 61.43% of the total, in the elections that were conducted on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Kennedy Agyapong, the closest competitor, with 71,996 votes, or 37.41% of the total vote.
With 1,449 votes (0.75%) and 781 votes (0.41%), respectively, the other two competitors were Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai Nimo.
Approximately 200,000 delegates from all around the nation participated in the election process, highlighting the importance of the NPP primaries in the lead-up to the general elections in 2024.
Dr. Bawumia will lead the NPP in the upcoming elections as a result of his victory in the flagbearer contest.
In the 2024 elections, he will go up against well-known opponents including Alan Kyerematen and John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
As the several contenders fight for the presidency, this election result creates the conditions for a tough political environment.
