Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, a former CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has formally declared that he will run for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Vice Chairman post when nominations are accepted.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid said in a press release to party supporters that his choice was made in response to repeated requests from the party’s rank and file for him to use his institutional expertise and experience to help rebuild the NPP.
He said he had carefully examined the appeal before choosing to come forward, characterising the calls as a clarion cry to serve.
He claims that his ambition is motivated by a desire to support the party that has influenced his political career rather than by a desire for personal wealth.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid noted that he was a founder member of the University of Cape Coast branch in 1992, tracing his extensive connection with the NPP back to its early years.
Additionally, he recalls being present at Victoria Park in Cape Coast on May 18, 1992, when the Danquah-Busia Club was symbolically replaced by the NPP.
He has run for important posts within the party throughout the years, including General Secretary in 2005 and National Organiser in 2001, both of which he lost.
He emphasised his unwavering commitment in spite of these obstacles, citing his ten years as Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s spokesperson and his subsequent role as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 national elections.
