The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has received forensic equipment from the UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Accra on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
The donation, which was funded by the government of the United States of America, was primarily intended to improve the Commission’s and other beneficiary law enforcement agencies’ digital forensic operations in dealing with cybercrime.
Other recipients include the EOCOghana (EOCO), the Ghana Revenue Authority – Official (GRA), the Ghana Police Service (GPS) Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Cyber Security Authority Ghana (CSA), and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The items received include a 27-inch desktop monitor and other attachments, forensic docks, an NYME White blocker, and other equipment.

Mr Charles Abani, the United Nations (UN) Country Coordinator in Ghana, presented the items to the Director-General of NACOC and thanked the sponsors for their tremendous support in combating cybercrime, which is increasingly becoming a concern for world leaders.
He praised the beneficiary law enforcement agencies for their cooperation and participation in the training sessions conducted for their selected officers, primarily to improve and enhance their capacities in the field of digital forensics.

Mr Abani advised recipients to make excellent use of the technology to help minimise cyber and digital forensic concerns, particularly drug trafficking and money laundering.
The Director-General of NACOC, Mr Kenneth Adu-Amanfoh, on his part, expressed gratitude to the donors and promised that the equipment will be put to good use.
He noted that cryptocurrency is becoming the norm as drug traffickers use such channels to conduct their illegal activities.
He therefore emphasized the need for team working in combating cybercrime.
