Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin had concerns over Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s hurried approval of the 2024 budget proposal.
During a post-budget workshop in Parliament, Bagbin discussed the necessity for careful attention to the budget and emphasized the significance of a complete review and due diligence procedure before accepting the documents.
Recognizing the crucial role that Parliament plays in ensuring the wellbeing of the nation, Bagbin urged Members of Parliament to put the interests of the people they represent first.
In a speech to his colleagues lawmakers, Bagbin stressed the importance of the budget and urged them to take their time in considering it.
He said that even though the current budget is extremely important, parliamentary activities may appear ordinary.
Bagbin urged MPs to listen to the people’s voices, analyze the budget carefully, and avoid making statements that are only political in nature or propagandizing.
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta stated that the economy is expected to expand from GH¢219.5 billion in 2016 to a historic GH¢1 trillion in 2024 at a speech to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
He added that inflation has begun to decline as a result of the better economic circumstances.
