Hon. Eric Opoku, Minister of Food and Agriculture, addressed the JLIFAD/FIDA Regional Implementation Workshop and Regional Farmers’ Forum in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, emphasising the importance of governmental initiatives and international partnerships in advancing Africa’s agricultural sector.

He described Ghana’s fruitful partnership with IFAD, namely the Rural Enterprises Program, which promoted rural economic development by giving entrepreneurs access to funding and assistance.

He also discussed the impact of the PROSPER Programme and the government’s “Feed Ghana Programme” in improving food security and lowering significant post-harvest losses.

He used the platform to highlight the strategic shift towards irrigation and the creation of Farmers’ Service Centers to modernise agriculture and ensure sustained progress, as well as to explain the reasoning behind the free fertiliser intervention, an initiative to support farmers affected by climate-related disasters and stabilise food production amid economic pressures.
