On Sunday, November 27, 2022, the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) team assigned to the Kintampo Divisional Police command engaged the thieves in a gunfight on the Kintampo-Babatorkuma route, during which one robber was shot and killed.
According to a report, the Police received a distress call from a caller who said that a robbery was taking place between Kintampo and Babatorkuma. In response to the call, the (CTU) team led by No. 43266 G/Sgt. Asare Kwabena and three men in a service vehicle with the license plate GP 842 traveled to Bolla Junction on the Kintampo-Babatorkuma highway, where they encountered the robbers who were abducting passengers from a KIA Spectra Taxi Cab with the license plate GW 6308-13 and being driven by 29-year-old
When they spotted the police car, which had roughly six thieves inside, they started shooting at it, breaking the windscreen and two side glasses.
The bandits were forced to flee as the Police team opened fire on them.
After regaining control of the situation, the police claimed they searched the area and discovered the body of a male adult of Fulani descent who was dressed in a matching set of black pants and an African pattern shirt.
A search of him revealed a green polythene bag containing five spent AAA cartridge ammunitions, GH20.00 in cash, two Tecno keypad mobile phones, one Infinix keypad mobile phone, one Tecno spark smartphone, twenty (20) live A.K. 47 assault rifle ammunitions, twenty (22) live AAA cartridges, and twenty (20) live AAA cartridges.
The body was brought to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, where it was determined that the victim had passed away. The body was then placed in the mortuary of the hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
The Divisional Commander observed that although the Police sent out a search party in case there were any additional bodies, none were discovered again because of the night.
The victims, who were in route to Buipe Market, pleaded with the Police to allow them to travel farther and to return on Monday, November 28, 2022, to help with the investigation.
To continue their trek, they were led through to Babatorkuma’s outskirts.
