In the course of the ongoing limited voter registration drive, the Electoral Commission has announced a correction of inaccuracies found in its presentation of daily voter registration numbers.

By the end of the fourth day of the exercise, 143,014 eligible voters had been registered, according to the EC’s initial report.

Less than a day after these numbers were made public, the European Commission (EC) admitted in a follow-up statement that there was a mistake in the statistics for day three, primarily in the Upper East.

According to the EC’s statement, there were errors in the overall registration numbers since the figure for day three in the Upper East region had been repeated.

The EC states that by making this modification, it is demonstrating its dedication to accuracy and transparency in the voter registration process and guaranteeing that the public is provided with trustworthy information regarding the ongoing exercise.

“The Electoral Commission has noted some mistakes in the daily voter registration figures earlier published. The mistakes appeared in the total registered figures stated for days two and three although the individual regional figures were accurate, while the day three figure for Upper East was repeated for day four. All these have been corrected”, the statement said.

On Tuesday, May 7, the voter registration drive got underway, with an emphasis on enrolling new voters and those who wanted to get a voter card.

The exercise is planned to run for 21 days, ending on May 27, 2024.

The election Commission hopes to increase the inclusivity of the election process by adding over 623,000 new voters to the voter register at the end of the exercise.

According to a breakdown of registration numbers by region, there are 17,837 registered voters in the Greater Accra region, 3,948 in the North East, 6,691 in the Upper East, and 10,373 in the Northern region.

In addition, there are the following regions: Ahafo (3,889), Ashanti (25,558), Bono (4,900), Bono East (5,118), Volta (7,512), Upper West (5,256), and Eastern (14,884).

Other regions that have registered are the Western North with 5,638; Oti with 4,206; Savannah with 2,989; and the Western region with 8,781.

According to the EC, it is dedicated to meeting its registration goal by the end of the campaign in order to guarantee a complete and accurate voter register.
