The three-day trip of the Greater Accra region by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo culminated in an interactive meeting with professional groups, organized labor, and certain proxies of the Ghanaian Trades Union Congress.
The associations included the Ghana Veterinary Medical Association, Ghana Pharmaceutical Society, Ghana Association of Laboratory Scientists, Ghana Institution of Engineers, Ghana Chemists Association, Ghana Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Ghana Medical Association, Ghana Bar Association, Ghana National Association of Teachers, Private School Teachers Association, National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Association of Ghana Industries.
The remaining organizations include the Ghana Institute of Social Workers, Ghana Institute of Architects, Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Ghana Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana Dental Association, Ghana Physiotherapy Association, Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply Chain Professionals, Ghana Institute of Chartered Economists of Ghana, Ghana Health Service Professionals Association, Ghana Statistical Service Workers Association, Ghana Technology and IT Professionals Association, and the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA-Ghana Chapter).
Throughout the conversation, President Akufo-Addo thanked the organizations for their support and stated that he views holding the office for two consecutive terms as an unfathomable honor.
He praised the collaboration between organized labor, professional associations, and the government and discussed the legacy of peace and stability in our country despite the growing risks of terrorist insurgency throughout the Sahelian region.
Regarding organized labor, he stated that a time of productive collaboration and understanding between the government and organized labor has predominated rather than one of conflict and public unrest.
“A telling outcome of this cooperation led to Ghana’s global acclaim on the stellar management of the pernicious COVID-19 pandemic.”
He also expressed great satisfaction with the government’s efforts’ multi-sectoral coverage and universality, claiming that there hasn’t been any discrimination based on factors like race, religion, or other characteristics.
He asserts that all facets of organized labor have benefited from inclusive and participatory government policy.
Speaking about the new educational system, he stated that it is improving quality and, consequently, social cohesiveness in addition to increasing and broadening access.
According to him, the goal of this new educational masterplan is to significantly raise the progression rate into postsecondary education from the pitiful 18 percent to 40 percent.
“These key reforms have become significant to ensure that Ghana does not miss out on the fourth industrial revolution, once again, after losing out on the first, second and third industrial revolutions, he said.
“It has been a productive eight years that has witnessed the fastest rate of growth at a pre-covid 8.3 percent as well as a systemic expansion of GDP that has grown in multiples of four since I took office” he stated.
Regarding his successor, he stated that Bawumia is qualified to provide us with the leadership required for the fourth industrial revolution due to his demonstrated record of integrity, competence, and credibility.
On behalf of organized labor, Morgan Ayawine, General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, congratulated President Akufo-Addo on his tenure in office and specifically mentioned the government-union partnership.
