Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentarian candidate for the Okaikwei Central Constituency, has been chosen to serve as its member for the ensuing four years.
Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent MP and candidate of the New Patriotic Party, received 14, 949 votes, while Baba Sadiq received 15,383 votes.
Early results in the hotly contested race pointed to Boamah winning.
Following the NDC’s appeal that the Electoral Commission should announce the constituency’s results using two-thirds of the polling station results that were available, the declaration was made.
“I have always maintained that I don’t think Patrick Boamah hasn’t done his best for the constituency but I think that this is the point where the constituency is looking for a younger, dynamic, innovative, bold and visionary man to come and continue and elevate the development conversation in the constituency.” Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu said.
Recalling his efforts and perseverance throughout the campaign, he stated that he was not shocked by the outcome and that the NDC’s mission in the constituency was to establish sustainable lives for the constituents, especially the youth.
He conveyed his appreciation to the constituency for the win.
Prior making a final conclusion, the electoral commission conducted consultations after finding irregularities in 31 pink sheets.
