The return of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to the public school administration structure has been announced by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu.

He said that the ultimate goal of this program is to improve student learning outcomes by encouraging greater collaboration between educators and parents.

Speaking in front of an audience, Haruna Iddrisu underlined how important PTAs are to encouraging community involvement in schools.

“I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back into the management of education under the presidency of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama”.

“This will enable parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions and support our schools in producing quality human capital for the country,” he reiterated.

Recall that in 2024, educational organizations such as the National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTAs) demanded that the Ghana Education Service (GES) immediately change the organization’s name from Parent Association (PA) to Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

The council was strongly against the PTA being canceled.

The council claimed that the majority of its members thought the new name was an imposition and that it was therefore not at all welcome.
