Ghanaians are reminded in a public notification by the National Identification Authority (NIA) that the Ghana Card is still free to issue at any of its 276 Operational District Offices nationwide.
In 2023, the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana authorized the authority to charge fees for the issue of new cards at its Premium Centers.
This action attempts to ensure transparency in the prices charged for different services while expediting the Ghana Card application process.
According to the NIA, the Ghana Card would be an important form of identification for citizens, making it easier for them to access government services and other necessities.
The notice states that GH₵310.00 for first issuance, GH₵125.00 for card replacement, and GH₵420.00 for record updates with card replacement are the authorized prices for a variety of services at Premium Centers.
The NIA has also included fees for various services, like record updates solely (GH₵310.00 at Premium Centers, free at district offices), and nationality updates (GH₵70.00).
